Edmonton Light Painting Workshop

What to know.

Join Jasper Photo Tours in Edmonton on Thursday August 29th from 7:30pm to 11:00pm for a night photography and light painting workshop.

Our session will begin at the Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre where we will start with the fundamentals of night photography. We will show you how to unlock the creative control of your camera, how to focus in the dark, which camera settings to use for any given situation/scene and best practices for night compositions.

We will have a session on post processing night photos through Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. We go over processing RAW photos, how to layer and blend them and how to best crop our images to achieve a desired result.

Our next subject will be light painting tools and their uses. We will go over the most basic and inexpensive tools, up to some more advanced consumer and DIY light painting tools. This will give us a full palette of light painting options to work with.

Finally we will travel to a choice outdoor location to practice the techniques we have learned and capture some epic light painting images against the Edmonton skyline. The topics for this shoot will include light painting orbs, domes and other stand-alone designs. We will cover light painting with a model, and how to use supplementary light painting to add to any given scene.

The cost for this workshop is $100.00 per person. The course fee is non refundable, however registration is transferable.

What to bring: A camera with manual settings, a tripod, a camera remote or shutter release, a headlamp, sturdy footwear and suitable clothing. We will be travelling a few hundred meters from our parking location, so having some mobility is necessary.
